Police charge man with numerous offences after evade police incident

Rockingham Detectives have charged a man with 24 offences as a result of their investigation into his activities and an evade police incident.

It is alleged about 2.50pm yesterday (14 April 2020), the 29-year-old man was riding a motorcycle along Kwinana Freeway when at the intersection of Karnup Road he failed to stop when directed to do so by police.

It is further alleged the man accelerated away and exited the freeway on Mandjoogoordap Road, Mandurah and travelled through numerous residential suburbs including Mandurah, Greenfields and Coodanup, heading towards Bunbury.

Police Airwing monitored his movements for approximately two hours, as he travelled through numerous regional suburbs including Collie and Boyanup before stopping in Bunbury where it is alleged he stole a vehicle.

It is alleged around 5pm, the man abandoned the motorcycle on Queensbury Street in Carey Park before stealing a Mitsubishi Outlander. It is further alleged he continued to fail to stop as directed by police and travelled through numerous suburbs in the Bunbury district, including the town centre and beach front.

The man abandoned the stolen Outlander on Hewison Street in Usher after he was involved in a collision with a police vehicle. He fled on foot and was apprehended by police in the driveway of a home on Washington Avenue.

The 29-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with 14 traffic offences relating to the evade police incident and 10 other offences relating to drug and weapon offences. He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court today, 15 April 2020.
