Mooney Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two men following an attempted arson at a unit in Flemington over the weekend.
The pair were arrested by detectives in Flemington yesterday and follows an incident at a Racecourse Road unit on Sunday 24 September after a dispute between the occupants of two units about 9.30pm.
One of the men, aged 37, has been charged with:
• attempted criminal damage by fire (arson)
• threat to destroy/damage property
• threat to inflict serious injury
• reckless conduct endangering life
• make threats to kill
• common law assault
• commit indictable offence whilst on bail
• handle stolen goods
• deal property suspected the proceeds of crime
• possess methylamphetamine.
The other man, aged 26, has been interviewed by detectives and released. It is expected he will be charged on summons.
Police have been told the victims asked two men to stop making noise outside their apartment when the pair allegedly assaulted one of the victims and made threats.
It is alleged an accelerant was poured on the front doors, windows, and outside hallway of an apartment, in which thirteen people including children were inside.
A subsequent warrant executed at one of the units in the apartment block in Racecourse Road uncovered various suspected stolen items, a quantity of drugs and items believed to have been used in the alleged attempted arson.
The 37-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 27 September.
