A teenager has appeared in court following an investigation into an alleged break and enter in the New England region.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.
About 2:55am yesterday (Monday 25 November 2024), police were called to a home on Donnelly Street, Armidale, following reports of a break and enter.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended and were told a person had allegedly entered a bedroom and demanded keys, before leaving the property with another two people. Personal items including cash and a mobile phone were allegedly stolen.
Police established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
About 10 minutes later, patrolling officers arrested a 14-year-old boy.
He was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence.
He appeared in a children’s court where he was refused bail to reappear before a children’s court on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
About 9am, a second 14-year-old attended Armidale Police Station.
He will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
