Police have charged two teenagers over an alleged armed robbery in Newcastle area.
Just after 6.30pm yesterday (Saturday 9 February 2025), police were called to the Newcastle Light Rail Interchange, near Station Street, Wickham, following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were told a 17-year-old boy was allegedly threatened with a knife by a group of teenagers somewhere between Newcastle Light Rail Interchange and Honeysuckle Light Rail stop before they stole the teen’s phone and shoes and left the scene.
Following inquiries, with assistance from officers attached to Police Transport Command, police arrested two boys – aged 17 and 15 – nearby.
During the arrest police allegedly located the stolen items in possession of the older boy.
They were both taken to Newcastle Police Station where the 17-year-old was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.
The 15-year-old boy was charged with robbery in company.
The older boy was refused bail to appear before Children’s Court today (Sunday 9 February 2025).
The younger boy was granted conditional bail to appear before Children’s Court on Monday 3 March 2025.
