Two teens will face a children’s court today over alleged traffic offences in the state’s north west.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Dumaresq Dam Road, Armidale, about 5pm yesterday (Thursday 21 November 2024), when they saw a hatchback with two people on board.
Checks revealed the car had been reported stolen from a motel on Dangar Street, Armidale, about 1.30am on Wednesday (20 November 2024).
Police directed the driver to stop; however, when the driver allegedly ignored directions a pursuit was initiated.
The car was followed to Drew Street when it hit a parked vehicle and two boys – both aged 17 – were arrested.
They were taken to Armidale Police Station where one was charged with five offences,
- · Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- · Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- · Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
- · Possess housebreaking implements, and
- · Deal with property proceeds of crime.
The other was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and breach of bail.
They were both refused bail to appear at children’s court today.
