Police charge three after high school lockdown in Kanahooka

Three people are now before the courts following a high school lockdown south of Wollongong last week.

Shortly after 11am Thursday (17 October 2019) police were called to a high school in Kanahooka following reports a weapon had been brandished from inside a car.

Police allege occupants of the car brandished a weapon in the general vicinity of the school as it was travelling along Joan Street. The school then placed itself into voluntary lockdown.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended the high school and commenced an investigation to the circumstances surrounding the incident.

About 9.30pm, police attended a house in Warrawong and located the vehicle used in the alleged incident. An 18-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on 13 November 2019.

About 9.45am Saturday (19 October 2019) police attended a home in Albion Park Rail and arrested a 15-year-old boy. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence and intimidation.

The teen was granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on 26 November 2019.

About 11am yesterday (Sunday 20 October 2019) police attended a home in Berkeley and arrested a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

The teen was granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on 10 December 2019.
