Three men have been charged with malicious damage and drug offences following an investigation into the graffiti damage of trains, rail carriages and infrastructures across the Sydney rail network.
In August 2021, officers attached to the Police Transport and Public Safety Command Proactive Crime Team North/Central established Strike Force Glenburnie to investigate property damage offences between October 2020 and December 2021 across the Sydney rail network.
The cost of the damage caused to Sydney trains is estimated to be more than $20,000.
Following extensive investigations, investigators executed three search warrants at homes at Darlington, Lilyfield and Warriewood between 6am and 11am yesterday (Thursday 16 December 2021), and arrested three males – aged 20, 21 and 25.
Officers were assisted throughout the operation by the Dog and Mounted Unit, Central Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group (OSG), NMR Public Order Riot Squad and South West Police Transport Command.
During the search warrants, police seized $12,000 cash, drugs, spray cans, sketchbooks, mobile phones, clothing, knuckle dusters, and electronic items.
The 20-year-old Darlington man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with intentionally mark premises without prescribed consent, two counts of destroy/ damage property in company, two counts of enter running lines, two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable), and two counts of possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and appeared before Central Local Court today (Friday 17 December 2021), where he was granted conditional bail to reappear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 21 January 2022.
The 25-year-old Lilyfield man was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with 10 counts of destroy/damage property in company, two counts of destroy or damage property, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 14 January 2022.
The 21-year-old Warriewood man was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with eight counts of destroy/damage property in company, two counts of enter running lines, supply prohibited drug, and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted bail to appear in Manly Local Court on Wednesday 19 January 2022.
