Officers from Strike Force Sweetenham have charged four teenagers following a pursuit in Sydney’s south yesterday.
About 2am (Wednesday 25 September 2024), officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command were told a Ford Ranger had allegedly been stolen from Wackett Street, Maroubra.
The vehicle was located a short time later in Redfern and police activated their lights and sirens; however, the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle collided with a power pole in Sandringham Street, Sans Souci.
All four occupants ran from the vehicle and following a foot pursuit, they were arrested a short distance from the scene.
Two 13-year-old girls, a 14-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station.
The boy was charged with ten offences,
– enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier,
– larceny,
– aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal less than/equal to $60K,
– aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-people there (two counts),
– steal motor vehicle,
– drive conveyance taken without consent of owner,
– unlicensed for Class,
– police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, and
– goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).
The older girl was charged with,
– enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner,
– larceny,
– aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-people there (two counts),
– steal motor vehicle,
– be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner,
– dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, and
– be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
A 13-year-old girl was charged with,
– enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner,
– larceny,
– aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-people there (two counts),
– steal motor vehicle,
– be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
They were all refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday 26 September 2024).
The other 13-year-old girl was dealt with by way of Young Offenders Act.
