Police charge two after pursuit – Central Coast

A man and woman have been charged following a pursuit on the state’s Central Coast.

About 11.15am today (Saturday 9 December 2023), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a red sedan on Donnison Street, Gosford.

Police spoke to the driver – a 25-year-old woman – and passenger – a 22-year-old man – before attempting to arrest the man by virtue of an outstanding revocation of parole warrant.

The man allegedly refused to exit the vehicle before the pair drove away.

Police commenced a pursuit, which was terminated a short time later, due to safety concerns.

With assistance from PolAir, the vehicle was tracked for about an hour to the Central Coast Highway, Kariong, where the man – who had allegedly moved to the driver’s seat – ran into bushland nearby.

Officers attached to the Dog Unit and Tuggerah Lakes Police District located the man Peats Ridge Road, Somersby.

He was taken to Gosford Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period. The outstanding warrant in relation to was also executed in relation to traffic and assault police related offences.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 10 December 2023).

The woman, who had remained seated in the vehicle after stopping, was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with hinder apprehension person who committed serious offence, not obey direction of police/authorised person and driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday 13 December 2023.
