Two people have been charged following the pursuit of a vehicle in the state’s Riverina region yesterday.
Just before 3pm (Tuesday 14 March 2023), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a Great Wall utility seen travelling on the Sturt Highway at Balranald.
The vehicle failed to stop when directed and a pursuit was initiated travelling to Hay, where road spikes were successfully deployed, deflating the tyres.
The vehicle stopped in the CBD area, and the driver fled while the passenger, an 18-year-old woman was arrested.
Following a search of the area, a 21-year-old man was later arrested after found hiding on the veranda of a home.
They were both taken to Hay Police Station.
The man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, Drive vehicle under influence of drugs, and enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
Ten outstanding warrants were also executed, and he was refused bail to appear at Hay Local Court today (Wednesday 15 March 2023).
The woman was charged with passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity and responsible person/custodian not disclose driver’s details. She will appear at Hay Local Court on Monday 1 May 2023.
