Two men have been charged after a police vehicle was allegedly rammed on the state’s South Coast yesterday.
About 8pm (Tuesday 18 August 2020), officers from South Coast Police District attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Pajero on Tathra Road, near White Rock at Tathra, when the vehicle stopped before allegedly reversing into the marked police vehicle.
The Mitsubishi then drove away towards the township of Tathra.
The two senior constables suffered minor injuries and the police vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage.
Following inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested on Bega Street, Bega, about 7.40am today (Wednesday 19 August 2020).
He was taken to Bega Police Station where he was charged with use offensive weapon to avoid apprehension, drive in a manner dangerous and drive whilst disqualified.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Bega Local Court today where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 25 August 2020.
Following further inquiries, a second man, aged 57, was arrested in Bega just after 2pm.
He was taken to Bega Police Station where he was charged with use offensive weapon to avoid apprehension (accessory after the fact) and hinder investigation into a serious indictable offence.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Bega Local Court on Tuesday 15 September 2020.
