Police charge woman after glassing at Wollongong

A woman has been charged over an alleged glassing incident that left another woman seriously injured in Wollongong at the weekend.

About 12.40am on Saturday (25 February 2023), officers attached to Wollongong Police District were called to a licenced premises on Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports of an alleged assault.

Police were told two women, aged 18 and 29, became involved in an argument, before the younger woman approached the older woman and allegedly punched her in the face while holding a glass bottle.

The 29-year-old was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground, hitting her head. She suffered a deep laceration to her upper lip and a bleed on the brain.

She was taken to Wollongong Hospital where she remains following surgery.

The younger woman was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where she was charged with one count each of reckless wounding and affray.

The Ingleburn woman appeared in Wollongong Bail Court yesterday (Sunday 26 February 2023), where she was granted conditional bail to reappear in the same court on Tuesday 7 March 2023.
