A woman has been charged and investigations continue following a pursuit in the state’s Southern Tablelands yesterday.
About 7.20am (Sunday 6 October 2019), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attached to The Hume Police District attempted to stop two vehicles travelling south on the Hume Highway, Marulan, due to manner of driving.
Both vehicles failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
Road spikes were successfully deployed on a Toyota Camry on the Hume Highway near the Federal Highway. A man and woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Goulburn Police Station to assist with inquiries.
The second vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, continued to travel along the Federal Highway, before the pursuit was terminated due to dangerous driving.
A short time later, road spikes were deployed at the Sutton Road overpass, Sutton, and the vehicle came to a stop just before Eaglehawk. The occupants, believed to be a man and woman, fled the scene on foot in a northerly direction.
A search perimeter was established with assistance from Monaro Police District and the ACT Police.
Following inquiries, a 36-year-old Flynn ACT woman was charged with class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed.
She was refused bail and appeared at Goulburn Bail Court today (Monday 7 October 2019), where she was formally refused bail to appear before the same court tomorrow (Tuesday 8 October 2019). The man was released without charge.
About 9.45pm yesterday (Sunday 6 October 2019), police arrested a 30-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man at a property on Vaughan Drive, Sutton.
The pair were taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, issued Future Court Attendance Notices’ for trespass and released pending further inquiries.
