Police charge woman with failing to comply with direction

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested, charged and refused bail after failing to comply with quarantine and travel directions given to her upon arriving in Western Australia.

On Tuesday 21 September 2021 the woman submitted a G2G application to enter Western Australia from Queensland stating she was attending the AFL Grand Final. Police contacted the woman prior to her departure and advised her that she would be subject to a 14 day self-quarantine period and this meant she would be unable to attend the Grand Final.

Despite this information, the woman travelled to Western Australia on a flight from Queensland, arriving in Perth on Wednesday, 22 September 2021. Upon her arrival the woman was once again advised she was required to self-quarantine for 14 days at a specified hotel in East Perth.

It will be alleged the woman failed to attend her nominated hotel accommodation, instead attending another two hotels in the company of a man known to her. It is further alleged that the woman failed to declare to the hotel that she was subject to a self-quarantine direction, and that she was not wearing a face mask during this time.

The 29-year-old woman was arrested in Perth and charged with one count of Fail to Comply with a Direction (Emergency Management Act). She was refused bail and will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Thursday 23 September 2021.

This matter highlights the proactive measures the WA Police Force is taking to identify unlawful travellers and mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to the State of WA.
