Police charge youth after armed robbery

At about 3pm on Monday the 30 September 2019 a male youth entered the St Vincent de Paul Society shop at Hurst Street, Bridgewater armed with a large spanner. The youth threatened staff for money before leaving empty handed.

The youth then went into the Big Bargain Bottle shop and attempted to steal alcohol before threatening staff, again with the spanner, and leaving empty handed.

The youth then went into the nearby Domino’s Pizza, again threatening staff with the spanner and leaving with a small amount of cash.

Police attended the scenes and as a result of investigations conducted, a 14 year old youth was arrested and has been charged with robbery offences. He will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court (Youth Justice Division) on Tuesday the 1 October 2019.

Detective Sergeant Michael Foster has said ‘while no one was physically injured during the incidents, the fear and apprehension caused to the victims was considerable’.
