Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a robbery and assault in St Kilda earlier this month.
Investigators have been told a 44-year-old St Kilda man was waiting for a tram on Chapel Street, near Dandenong Road, when he was assaulted by an unknown man about 2.45pm on 6 November.
The victim was struck by the offender causing him to fall to the ground.
The unknown man then fled with the victim’s mobile phone.
Investigators have released CCTV and still images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
The man was perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, about 20-years-old, slim build, approximately 175cm tall with dark, shoulder-length hair.
It is believed several people may have witnessed the attack and investigators are eager for them to come forward.
