Police investigate stabbing in Fitzroy

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed in Fitzroy in April.

It is believed the victim was walking along Nicholson Street from the city about 11.50pm on Friday 7 April when he was approached by two unknown men.

Officers believe that after a short conversation, one of the men produced a large kitchen knife and in an unprovoked attack slashed the victim across the face.

Police have been told the men then fled the scene on foot, heading north on Nicholson Street, east on Gertrude Street and then north again on Fitzroy Street.

The 22-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators have released CCTV footage and images of two men they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.

The pair can be heard speaking to one another on the audio of the CCTV and it is believed one of the offenders may be named ‘Jayden’.

One man is approximately 180cm tall with dark coloured hair and a fringe. He was unshaven, described as having peach fuzz around the cheeks and above his lip. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark coloured pants, red shoes and was carrying a dark bag.

The second man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and was wearing a grey hooded jumper, a dark coloured cap, grey tracksuit pants, dark Nike shoes and was carrying a black backpack.
