A man has been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body after he allegedly threatened officers while armed with knives in Pakenham Upper last night.
Police were investigating a serious assault which occurred in Endeavour Hills about 3pm on Wednesday.
A yellow Hyundai believed connected to the assault was spotted in Narre Warren about 8.45pm.
The vehicle was then sighted a number of times in surrounding suburbs before a pursuit of the car occurred about 9pm.
As the vehicle was pursued along Pakenham Road police deployed stop sticks.
The vehicle was immobilised and officers approached to speak to the driver.
The driver, believed to be a man in his 30s, got out of the car and threatened police while armed with knives.
A firearm was discharged and the man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
The investigation into the incident by Armed Crime Taskforce is ongoing and will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
