Police lay armed robbery charges at Townsville

Police have charged a man with multiple offences following two armed robberies in Townsville on Sunday morning.

Police will allege around 7.45am on Sunday, July 9, a man was involved in an armed robbery at Macrossan Street, South Townsville, where he entered a house brandishing a machete and challenged a woman in the house. He demanded money and stole a wallet and fled.

Around 8.30am, police will allege a man entered a woman’s bedroom in Tramore Circuit, Burdell holding a machete. The woman screamed and the man fled with two sets of car keys and stole both vehicles.

Around 7.40am yesterday, July 13, police arrested a 19-year-old Hermit Park man at Chandler Street, Garbutt.

The male was charged with eight counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts each of stealing and unlicenced driving, two counts each of attempted enter dwelling with intent and robbery whilst armed and one count each of attempted enter dwelling with intent, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence, enter dwelling with intent to use violence whilst armed, enter dwelling with intent whilst armed, enter premises and commit an indictable offence, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and steal from a person. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

On July 10, a woman and man were arrested, who police will allege were involved in the same armed robberies.

A 24-year-old Ingham woman was charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving unlicenced and enter a dwelling with intent whilst armed. She was remanded in custody and will re-appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on August 24.

A 22-year-old Heatley male was charged with six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of armed robbery in company and enter dwelling with intent and one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle. He was remanded in custody and will re-appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on September 5.
