Police lay charges after man stabbed, officer injured in Temora

A man has been charged over a stabbing outside a hotel in Temora this morning.

Officers from Riverina Police District have been told two men, aged 20 and 23, began arguing outside the hotel about 1.45am (Sunday 10 February 2019), which then escalated into a physical fight.

During the fight, the older man has allegedly been stabbed to his upper body. He has been taken to Temora Hospital where he is described as being in a stable condition.

The younger man was arrested at the scene and taken to Temora Police Station where he has been charged with five offences: reckless grievous bodily harm, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, wield knife in a public place, affray, custody of a knife in a public place. He has been bail refused to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Monday 11 February 2019).

Both men are from Temora.

A knife has been seized from the roof of the hotel and has been taken for forensic examination.

In a separate, but related incident, a police officer sustained injuries to his left hand during the arrest of a 21-year-old man in Temora, a short time after the alleged stabbing.

The 21-year-old man was treated for the effects of OC spray and a should injury before being taken to Temora Police Station where he has been charged with assault police and resist arrest. He is due to appear in Temora Local Court on 27 February 2019.

The officer was also treated at Temora Hospital and will require further medical treatment.
