A man has been charged with 13 serious offences after allegedly climbing the structure above the Clem 7 Tunnel entrance in Kangaroo Point this morning while armed with knives.
It will be alleged that around 6.50am a man entered a café on Baines Street and approached three employees behind the main counter.
The man allegedly demanded they hand over knives before taking two blades from a bench and leaving the premises.
A short time later the man returned and threatened a customer with the knives before forcing his way back into the café and making further threats to staff.
The employees and customer fled the scene before the man also left and crossed the road where he then allegedly climbed the Clem 7 tunnel structure on Shafston Avenue around 7am.
Officers blocked entry to the tunnel while specialist negotiators were called in to speak with the man.
It is further alleged that at one point the armed man attempted to leave the structure and charged at three police officers.
At 1.45pm the 40-year-old East Brisbane man climbed down and was taken into custody before being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for further assessment.
He has since been charged with three counts of serious assault police while armed and common assault, two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and one count each of going armed so as to cause fear, unregulated high-risk activities, stealing, possession of a knife and public nuisance.
He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (July 19).
