A man will appear in court today charged after a private paramedic was seriously injured when he was struck by a car in Sydney’s west yesterday.
About 3.15pm (Saturday 5 September 2020), emergency services were called to a raceway at Eastern Creek following reports a 54-year-old man had been injured after being hit by a car that failed to stop.
The injured man was carried on the bonnet of the vehicle for about 40 metres before falling to the ground.
He was treated at the scene for leg and head injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police will allege the man, who is a private paramedic, intervened in an altercation between a 44-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, who are known to each other, before the younger man entered a Ford Falcon XR8 and drove towards the older man.
A crime scene was established and officers from Blacktown Police Area Command and the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
About 4.20pm, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command noticed the Ford sedan stopped on Ettalong Road, Greystanes, and attempted to pull it over.
It’s alleged the Ford failed to stop and police engaged in a pursuit which was terminated a short time later due to his manner of driving.
Polair assisted in the search for the vehicle, which was located, and followed into a car park on Distribution Road, Seven Hills.
The driver allegedly ran from the vehicle and following a short foot pursuit, he was arrested.
The 44-year-old man was taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Blacktown Police Station about midnight (Sunday 6 September 2020).
He was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, common assault (DV), dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, police pursuit-not stop- drive dangerously (x2), use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
The Blacktown man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court later today.
