Northern Territory Police have arrested a 37-year-old man and 37-year-old woman for aggravated robbery overnight.
At approximately 6:45pm yesterday, police responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in Coconut Grove. The alleged offenders gained access to a property where they pushed a 71-year-old man to the ground and stole his property.
At approximately 7:30pm, the alleged offenders attempted to rob a man and woman walking along Dick Ward Drive and Hazel Court in Coconut Grove. The man was struck to the face while attempting to protect his property.
Police allege the male offender returned to the residence at Coconut Grove and attempted to unlawfully enter a number of dwellings. The man attempted to pry open a door with a spear and was confronted by the owner. The man then threw a spear at the owner, narrowly missing him.
While police were responding to the incident, the man allegedly advanced on police with the same spear. The man and woman were then taken into custody without further incident.
The man and woman have both been charged with:
- 2 x aggravated robbery
- 2 x aggravated assault
- unlawful entry
- attempt unlawful entry
- damage property
- armed with offensive weapon
- possess stolen property
Senior Constable Kevin Carr of the Serious Crime Squad said, “Police would like to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Hazell Court at around 7:30pm. We are particularly interested in speaking to the driver of a red wagon type SUV and driver of a white utility as we believe they may have seen a struggle that dispersed onto the road”.
“Police would also like to speak with anyone that witnessed suspicious activity at the Litchfield Court Flats, Runge Street, Dick Ward Drive and Hazell Court between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:15pm.”
