Northern Territory Police have charged a man after a firearm incident in Humpty Doo last week.
Around 7:20pm on Friday 8 December 2023, police received reports a 52-year-old man had driven to a property in Humpty Doo, produced a rifle, and threatened 2 residents.
The offender has then allegedly discharged the firearm at 2 dogs, killing them, before fleeing the scene with both the deceased animals.
A short time later, the offender surrendered to police at his nearby property. The firearm used in the alleged offending was also seized.
The offender is believed to be known to the residents of the property.
He has since been charged with make threats to kill, assault with a firearm, damage property and has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 9 January 2024.
Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Overall said “I commend the work of all the officers involved, especially those who negotiated with the man to surrender, resulting in a safe arrest without incident.”
