Police lay charges over assault at party in Mascot

A man will face court today charged over allegedly assaulting another man outside a party in Sydney’s south.

About 11.45pm on Friday (13 March 2020), police will allege a 25-year-old man was at a party at an apartment complex in Coward Street, Mascot.

As he was leaving, he was allegedly approached by another man, who then struck him in the head with a bottle.

A 22-year-old woman tried to intervene, but the second man allegedly grabbed her around the throat.

The 25-year-old man and woman managed to leave the area and flagged down officers from South Sydney Police Area Command.

Police rendered first aid before the 25-year-old man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 21-year-old man inside a unit at Bilga Crescent, Malabar, about 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday 15 March 2020).

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Monday 16 March 2020).
