A man has been charged after a reported child approach in the Southern Highlands yesterday.
About 7.40am (Thursday 4 July 2019), a 13-year-old girl was standing on Wilson Drive, Balmoral, waiting for her school bus.
Police have been told a 41-year-old Thirlmere man allegedly approached the child and spoke with her.
The man has allegedly attempted to lure the girl into her vehicle before reaching out towards her. The child moved away before boarding her school bus. The child reported the incident to the bus driver who arranged for the police to be notified.
The child’s mother was near the area and was then approached by the man. The man allegedly exposed himself to her and became abusive, before driving away.
The child’s mother took a photo of the man’s vehicle and reported the incident to police.
Police conducted an extensive search for the vehicle. About 9.40am the vehicle was sighted and stopped by Southern Region Highway Patrol on Westbourne Avenue, Thirlmere. The man was arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station.
Following the man’s arrest police allegedly located a small quantity of prohibited drugs (Crystal methylamphetamine and cannabis leaf) in his possession.
Enquiries on the man revealed his NSW Drivers licence was cancelled from 19 June 2019.
Whilst in custody at Narellan Police Station, the man allegedly damaged a police cell.
The man was later charged with attempt to detain person with intent to obtain advantage, two counts of intimidation, wilful and obscene exposure, two counts of possess prohibited drug, drive whilst licence cancelled, and maliciously damage property.
The 41-year-old man has been bail refused and is due to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 5 July 2019).
