Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged two people following an alleged break in at a building site at Spring Mountain near Ipswich on Saturday, August 12.
It will be alleged at approximately 4pm, the pair stole electrical wires, copper fittings and a power box causing around $12,500 worth of damage at a Palk Place property.
Following extensive investigations, detectives executed a search warrant at a Pistachio Court address in Camira on August 15 where they allegedly recovered 10 kilograms of cut copper, stripped wiring, a stolen air conditioning unit and a stolen laundry sink.
A 42-year-old Camira man has been charged with one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and two counts of possess tainted property.
A 37-year-old Camira woman has been charged with one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, and possess tainted property.
Both are due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on September 20.
The theft of copper wire and other metal exposes thieves, legitimate workers and the wider community to significant risk of serious injury or death.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about copper thefts to come forward.
