Northern Territory Police have arrested a 47-year-old man following the alleged armed robbery of a pharmacy in Tennant Creek this afternoon.
Just before 12:30pm police responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm in the local pharmacy who was threatening staff. As Police arrived on scene a staff member had managed to remove the firearm from the man.
The man was arrested by police and taken into custody where he will be interviewed in relation to the incident.
Territory Duty Superintendent Peter Dash said no one was harmed during the incident.
“The experience itself would have been fairly traumatic to those involved, however we’re thankful no one was physically harmed during this incident,” said Superintendent Dash
“This was a on-off event and we do not expect any repercussions or similar incidents.”
“We have cordoned off the area as a crime scene and the store will be closed for the remainder of the afternoon.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience but thank you for your patience and understanding. Once our investigators and forensic officers have processed the crime scene it will be opened back up to the public.”
