Northern Territory Police have been responding to a series of disturbances within the Daly River Region.
Over the past week, police have responded to significant incidents in the Wadeye, Peppimentarti and Daly River communities. These have included large groups fighting, an adult male injured with a crossbow, stolen vehicles driving erratically through various communities and a police vehicle sustaining minor damage. There were no reported injuries to the police.
Earlier today, police arrested 4 offenders in the vicinity of Daly River. Two of the offenders jumped into the Daly River, which is known for its significant crocodile population, trying to evade police. Those males were subsequently arrested.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Kylie Anderson said, “Additional resourcing, including General Duties and the Territory Response Group were deployed to the region to support local policing efforts.
“Police members stationed in the communities have been doing an outstanding job at responding to incidents and reducing the impact of these disturbances, and I commend their efforts, especially in regards to the recent arrests.
“The behaviour displayed by a small group of residents is completely unacceptable. NT Police will continue to work with Elders, Traditional Owners and other community stakeholders in an effort to bring an end to these disturbances.”
