Northern Territory Police have arrested 6 youths in relation to property offences across Darwin over the weekend.
In the first incident around 3:30pm on Saturday, police received reports that a group of 3 male youths had attended Mawalan Court, Ludmilla, armed with a hammer. The youths have allegedly threatened the driver of a scooter before all three stole the vehicle and fled the scene. The stolen scooter was sighted by members of the public and Police CCTV Operators travelling throughout the Northern Suburbs with two of the youths being dropped off in Karama. The third youth later collected a further two youths from an address in Ludmilla before continuing to travel throughout the Northern Suburbs.
Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit responded with 3 males, all aged 13, being arrested without incident and the stolen scooter being recovered. All three youths have been since been charged with multiple offences and are remanded in custody to appear in court today.
In a second incident starting around 12:30am this morning, police received reports that a group of youths allegedly stole another scooter from a residence in Nakara before attempting to steal further vehicles in Coconut Grove, and successfully stealing a taxi from Casuarina. In each incident the youths were allegedly armed with edged weapons. No injuries were reported.
The stolen taxi and scooter have since been recovered and 3 male youths, aged 13, 13, and 16, have since been arrested in relation to the offending. All three remain in custody and are expected to be charged at a later today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said ” Detectives from Strike Force Trident have carriage of all incidents and are urging anyone with information, particularly if you have dash-cam or mobile phone footage of scooters driving dangerously around the northern suburbs, to make contact on 131 444.
