Northern Territory Police have arrested five youths in relation to a stolen vehicle and dangerous driving in Alice Springs overnight.
At 10:40pm, a Toyota Prado was stolen from a business on Gap Road before being observed driving dangerously through the CBD.
Strike Fore Viper, Drone Unit, Dog Operations and general duties police members were all deployed. The stolen Prado continued to be driven dangerously with police monitoring its movements.
At 3:30am, 2 Toyota Hilux Utilities were also stolen from Kennett Court and were seen driving dangerously with the stolen Toyota Prado.
A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on the Prado which came to a stop in the Todd River. Five youths, aged between 11 and 13, were arrested after fleeing the vehicle.
A 13-year-old male is expected to be charged later today with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Four youths, aged 11, 12, 12 and 13, will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.
Both stolen utilities were subsequently abandoned by the offenders and recovered a short time later.
Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole said “Forensic analysis of the 3 vehicles is currently underway with further charges expected.
“Police vehicles were baited into pursuits throughout the night and for the safety of the community and our officers, we did not engage until we were confident we could do so with minimal risk to everyone involved.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable. These offenders have put themselves, the community and police all at risk of serious harm or death.
“Anyone who witnessed this behaviour, particularly if you have dash-cam footage, is urged to contact police on 131 444 or crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
