Police officer injured after intercepting stolen vehicle in Frankston

Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a police officer was injured when intercepting a stolen vehicle yesterday.

Police spotted a parked vehicle, believed to be stolen, on Schooner Bay Drive and intercepted it about 4am on Wednesday, 27 July.

It is understood a police officer approached the male driver and opened the door of the white Jeep Grand Cherokee, before attempting to remove the man from the car.

The driver then reversed the vehicle at high speed, dragging the police member along the ground.

The police member was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The male driver fled the scene in the vehicle.

Investigators believe the same vehicle was also involved in a petrol theft on Skye Road in Langwarrin on Saturday, 16 July.

Officers have released an image of a man they believe can assist with the investigation.
