Police remind motorists to be safe around railway crossing following crash at Spreyton

Police are reminding motorists to be safe around railway crossings following a crash involving a tractor and a train at Spreyton this morning.

“Around 10.30am emergency services responded to a crash on Mersey Main Road involving a tractor which was carrying a pallet and a train laden with cement,” said Sergeant Ben Elliott.

“Police allege the tractor had crossed an uncontrolled level crossing and failed to give way to the oncoming train which subsequently struck the rear tires of the tractor.”

“Luckily no injuries were reported.”

The driver of the tractor, a man in his 30s, will be proceeded against.

Police urge all motorists approaching a railway crossing to slow down, pay attention, approach with caution, and obey all signs.

Workplace Standards and Office of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Rail Safety Regulator have been notified.
