Officers from Springwood Forensic Crash Unit are investigating a six-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a man at Slacks Creek yesterday (November 18).
Preliminary information indicates that at around 6.25pm a white utility collided with the rear of a sedan that was stationary in a line of traffic in the right hand turning lane on the exit 24 offramp, at the Loganlea Road and Pacific Motorway intersection.
The force of the collision caused the sedan to be shunted left across two lanes of traffic. The driver and sole occupant, a 23-year-old Springwood man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The utility continued on and collided with the rear of the next vehicle, a white sedan, forcing it into the rear of the car in front, a grey sedan.
The grey sedan then collided with the rear of another white sedan, which in turn collided with the rear of a black 4WD.
A 59-year-old Wynnum West man, the driver and sole occupant of the utility sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
A 50-year-old Daisy Hill woman, driver of one the vehicles sustained minor injuries.
The remaining drivers – a 62-year-old Cornubia man, a 58-year-old Daisy Hill man and a 42-year-old Daisy Hill man- were not injured.
