Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance to identify two males following an attempted carjacking that left a man with serious facial injuries in St Albans last month.
Police have been told a 47-year-old man paid for petrol at a service station on Main Road East and was walking back to his car about 11.15pm on 26 April.
It is believed the victim was unlocking his car when an unknown man approached him and forced him to the ground before assaulting him and kicking him in the head a number of times.
Two other unknown males joined the offender further assaulting the victim while he was on the ground.
The group attempted to steal the car but were unsuccessful and ran from the scene.
A St Albans man was taken to hospital with facial injuries and a broken nose.
Police charged a 24-year-old St Albans man with attempted aggravated carjacking, affray, robbery, intentionally cause injury, assault in company, commit indictable offence whilst on bail.
He was remanded to appear before a Magistrates’ Court and remains in custody, due to a appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 24 July.
The investigation remains ongoing and detectives have released images of two men that may be able to assist with their enquiries.
It’s believed a number of people were in the area at the time of the assault and investigators are keen to speak to them.
