Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a series of fires in the St Kilda area over the past three weeks.
The first fire, on Sunday 25 September, occurred on Patterson Street in Middle Park where wheelie bins were pushed up against a car and set alight causing damage to the car and apartment building about 3.15am.
The second fire occurred in Park Street in St Kilda on Sunday 2 October where wheelie bins were again pushed up against a vehicle about 3.10am.
The car was parked under an apartment building carport at the time of the fire which caused extensive damage to one car and damage to another car and an apartment.
Three further fires occurred on Saturday 8 October with the first at Waterloo Crescent in St Kilda where a bin was pushed up against a door of an electrical room and set alight about 12.30am.
Later that day, six wheelie bins were set up against a rear fence of a property on Raglan Street in St Kilda East and set on fire just before 1pm.
A wooden box was also pushed against a door of an apartment on Inkerman Street and set alight just before 8pm, causing extensive damage.
Luckily no one has been injured.
Detectives believe all the incidents are linked and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have seen suspicious activity in the St Kilda area.
