Police are appealing for information after two men were injured in separate incidents in Redfern.
The first incident occurred just before 11pm yesterday (Friday 19 January 2024), when emergency services were called to the intersection of Walker and James streets, where they found a 38-year-old taxi driver with injuries to his chest and hand.
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command have been told a man opened the front passenger door of the taxi and leaned inside, stabbing the driver in the chest before running away.
Police established a crime scene and conducted a canvass of the neighbourhood as inquiries began into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
About 12.20am, police were called to Morehead Street responding to reports a food delivery driver had been assaulted. Police then discovered the 25-year-old man had suffered two puncture wounds to his back.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to Redfern Police Station, where the man was treated before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The food delivery driver was released early this morning, while the cab driver is likely to be released later today.
A description of a man investigators believe may be able to assist with inquiries has been released: he is described as being aged 20 to 30, having a dark complexion, thin build with brown hair. At the time he was shirtless, wearing black shorts, white sneakers with blue detailing, and a black cap; however, he may now be wearing a black top as well.
