Police Seek Information On Disturbances At Nhulunbuy

Northern Territory Police are seeking information in relation to offending which occurred at Nhulunbuy and Yirrkala this morning.

About 4am, police received a report a licensed premises in Endeavour Square, Nhulunbuy, was unlawfully entered by a number of male offenders who stole a quantity of alcohol and caused substantial damage to the building and within the store. The group of males was last seen running towards residences on Eugenia Avenue at 4:10am.

About 7:45am, a number of disturbances occurred at Yirrkala during which males damaged vehicles and armed themselves with weapons, including machetes. Police responded and arrested 3 offenders, two youths and one adult, all heavily intoxicated.

It is believed that both incidents are linked.

Police will continue to conduct proactive patrols in Yirrkala to avoid further disturbances. There is no present risk to community members and there is no lockdown in force.

Police are continuing to investigate and welcome further information, including statements and photographs or footage. Detectives are particularly interested in information regarding the 8 males pictured in the attached CCTV footage.
