Police seek witnesses – Multiple offences in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses in relation to two separate incidents which occurred in Alice Springs last week.

The first incident occurred around 3:30pm on 16 April 2019 when a silver Holden Commodore containing a 40-year-old male and several unidentified passengers pulled up to a bus stop in on Spearwood Road, Sadadeen.

Police believe the 40-year-old exited the vehicle and engaged in an argument with the victim before retrieving a machete from his vehicle. It is believed the male chased the victim with the machete and swung at her several times in attempts to hit her before getting back into his vehicle and fleeing at speed.

The incident was reported to police and the vehicle of interest was later located at a hotel car park and seized by police.

The second incident occurred around 9:00pm on 18 April 2019. Police sighted the 40-year-old male driving a silver BMW along Smith Street. Police attempted a traffic apprehension and commenced a pursuit however it was terminated shortly after.

Police sighted the vehicle a short time later on Bradshaw Drive, Gillen, where another pursuit was initiated. A Tyre Deflation Device was successfully deployed on Lyndavale Drive, Larapinta, and the pursuit continued into the CBD where the vehicle and male were successfully apprehended in the KFC car park.

The male was found to be in possession of 2.49 grams of methamphetamine and $1005 cash. A search of the vehicle was conducted by Drug Detection Dog Nikki which located a clip seal bag of cannabis.

In relation to the incident on 16 April the man was charged with:

  • 1 x drive disqualified
  • 1 x aggravated assault
  • 1 x recklessly endanger serious harm – aggravated
  • 1 x armed with an offensive weapon
  • 1 x damage to property

In relation to the incident on 18 April the man was charged with:

  • 1 x supply less than commercial quantity schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1 x possess trafficable quantity schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1 x possess less than trafficable quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1 x drive disqualified
  • 1 x driver drive under influence of dangerous drugs
  • 2 x drive dangerous manner during pursuit
  • 1 x damage surface of road or public place
  • 1 x resist police in execution of duty
  • 1 x possess tainted property

The male is due to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 30 June 2019.
