Police update 1: Appeal for witnesses and dash cam vision – fatal traffic crash at Stanwell

Rockhampton Forensic Crash Unit officers investigating the fatal traffic crash at Stanwell earlier this week are appealing for witnesses and dash cam vision.

Just after midday on Monday, October 11 a rear end collision occurred at a roadworks site, in the eastbound lane of the Capricornia Highway, involving a stationary ambulance and a white single-tanker truck.

Two male passengers, aged 87 and 65, in the back of the ambulance died at the scene.

The male driver of the single-tanker truck was flown from the scene by RACQ Capricorn Rescue to hospital in a serious condition.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police, or anyone travelling on the Capricornia Highway between Gogango and Gracemere between 10am and 12.30pm with relevant dash cam vision of the truck or ambulance is urged to contact police.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating after two people died in a crash at Stanwell earlier today.

Preliminary inquiries indicate just after midday an ambulance was stationary at a roadwork temporary traffic light in the eastbound lane of the Capricornia Highway at Stanwell. A truck also travelling east, collided with the rear of the ambulance causing extensive damage, pushing it off the roadway where it then rolled.

Two passengers in the back of the ambulance died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was transported to the Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver and two additional passengers in the ambulance were also transported to the Rockhampton Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.
