Police Update 1: Grievous Bodily Harm in Cairns North, QLD

Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit have charged a 14-year-old Cairns North boy following a grievous bodily harm incident in Cairns North on Saturday, October 19.

It will be alleged just after 4pm, a rock was thrown through a train window near the James and Law Street intersection, striking a 5-year-old boy in the head.

The child was initially taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries and was subsequently transported to the Townsville University Hospital on October 20, where he remains in a stable condition.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with one count of endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on October 22.

Investigations are continuing.
