The search and rescue operation for a Atherton Tablelands woman missing in waters near Mabuiag Island in the Torres Strait has entered its third day.
Police and multiple agencies have conducted a wide-ranging surface and aerial search for the missing 68-year-old without result.
Several marine assets, including the Queensland Police Service’s QPV William Conroy and QPV GJ Olive from across the Torres Strait were tasked, with support from locally sourced helicopters and numerous volunteer vessels from both Mabuiag and Badu Islands.
The missing woman was one of three people on board a vessel which overturned on Thursday, June 8, approximately three nautical miles off the southeast end of the Island.
An emergency beacon was activated around 2pm on June 8, and two people were rescued shortly afterwards.
A 34-year-old male and a 22-year-old female were transported to Thursday Island Hospital for treatment, and have since been released.
The search continues for the third missing female passenger.
