Detectives investigating the death of 53-year-old David Collin in Maroochydore on September 9 are hoping to identify a cyclist who may be able to provide key information relating to his murder.
Mr Collin, who was homeless at the time, was subject to a violent, unprovoked attack as he slept in his sleeping bag at the rear of a community centre on Millwell Road East.
He was located with severe head injuries by a member of the public who immediately notified police around 8.30am.
Investigators are seeking public assistance to identify a male on pushbike seen on CCTV in the Evans St, Millwell Road East intersection around 10:30pm on the Sunday night, September 8.
He is seen riding quickly across Evans St past the commercial shops and into Millwell Road East.
Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said the person may be able to provide crucial information relating to the investigation and is considered a witness only.
“It is possible he may have left work and was returning home, or even heading to start work somewhere near the Plaza shopping centre area,” Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said.
“The male was wearing dark long pants and top, and the pushbike is possibly a BMX,” he said.
“We would appreciate if this person came forward or if anyone who knows who he is could contact police as soon as possible to assist with this investigation.”
