Police continue to search for the remaining wreckage of a Yak 52 aircraft that failed to return from a flight that departed a Coombabah airfield around 10am on Wednesday, June 5.
A 31-year-old woman, a passenger on the aircraft, remains missing.
Yesterday, Gold Coast Water Police located a deceased man in wreckage off South Stradbroke Island. Subsequent investigations today confirmed it was the 52-year-old male pilot.
Gold Coast Water Police today continued coordinating further air, sea and land searches for the plane with the assistance of Polair, rescue helicopter, jet skis, all-terrain vehicles, police vessels and volunteer marine rescue groups.
Specialised underwater sonar equipment is also being utilised by police to search for the aircraft.
This afternoon, offshore search efforts had to be suspended due to rough sea conditions. However inshore, air and land-based patrols will continue over the weekend.
