Police update: Charges – Recklessly endanger life at Manton

Northern Territory Police have charged a youth in relation to a fatal crash in along with a robbery committed just prior.

Detectives from Crime Division and Major Crash are investigating the incidents, which involved a group of youths allegedly committing a robbery on a service station at Adelaide River, while armed with various makeshift weapons.

After allegedly assaulting the service station attendant and stealing a quantity of small items and cash, the youths later crashed the stolen motor vehicle.

A passer-by stopped to help the youths and was allegedly assaulted by the group as they attempted to steal his vehicle but were unable to do so.

A 14-year-old was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Damage to property
  • Recklessly endangering life
  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed

He has since been released from hospital and appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody with his next appearance on 15 July 2022. Additional charges are expected to be laid in the coming weeks.

A 15-year-old remains in hospital for treatment and will be summonsed at a later date.

An 11-year-old and a 9-year-old have both been released from hospital and are yet to be formally spoken to by police.

Investigations continue.
