Cold Case Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man with historical child sex offences as a result of their nvestigation into the death of a newborn child in Kambalda in 1995.
The body of the baby boy was located at a caravan park on Wednesday 12 July 1995. It is believed the boy was born hours prior to being located. A 38-year-old woman, who was 14- years-old at the time of the baby’s death and who it will be alleged was the mother of the child, was charged in September 2019 with one count of Wilful Murder.
Given the age of the woman at the time of the child’s birth an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the conception of the child was commenced.
On Sunday 6 October 2019 detectives from the Cold Case Homicide Squad travelled to Queensland where a 55-year-old man was arrested. It will be alleged the man, who was known to the victim at the time, sexually assaulted the then 13-year-old girl, resulting in the baby being conceived.
It will be further alleged the man engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with the victim over a number of years, when the victim was aged between 11 years old and 16 years old.
A 55-year-old man from Queensland has been charged with:
– 2 x Sexual Penetration of a Child Under 13
– Sexually Penetrated a Child over 13 and Under 16
– 2 x Sexually Penetrated a Child over 16 under their Authority
– Sexual Relationship with a Child under the Age of 16
He has been extradited from Queensland and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court
today, Thursday 10 October 2019.
