Police have charged a man with five offences including driving without due care causing grievous bodily harm following an alleged hit and run crash which left a woman in a critical condition at Southport on September 7.
Around 10.40pm a 62-year-old Southport woman was located on Marine Parade suffering significant internal injuries, before she was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
It is alleged that she was struck by a white Audi sedan before the driver fled the scene.
Following subsequent investigations, officers executed a search warrant at a Surfers Paradise apartment block last night where they arrested the man.
A 33-year-old Carrara man was today charged with one count each of driving without due care and attention causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance, driving of motor vehicle without driver’s licence disqualified by the court and fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.
He was denied police bail and is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow (September 29).
