Detectives have charged a man with armed robbery and arson as part of Operation Dagobah, established to investigate recent public acts of violence, including shootings, in the South Brisbane and Logan districts.
It will be alleged on April 23 a man was seriously assaulted by a group of three men on Beaudesert Road at Coopers Plains before they stole his vehicle.
Later that evening the stolen vehicle was driven to an address on Stiller Drive in Kuraby and set alight. Offenders also fired shots into the second storey of the dwelling.
Yesterday (October 10) detectives arrested a 36-year-old Berrinba man in Fortitude Valley and charged him with one count each of armed robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, unlawful possession of a weapon and authority required to possess explosives.
He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
Operation Dagobah is made up of members from the Crime and Intelligence Command’s Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad, and Brisbane and South Eastern regions, supported by specialist resources from Operations Support Command, to spearhead investigations into multiple incidents including where firearms were discharged into cars and residences.
Brisbane Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the seven shootings were being treated as linked to tensions between two rival groups.
Multiple search warrants have been executed as part of the operation with nine males aged from 17 to 23 taken into custody and charged following a brawl at a Mount Gravatt Shopping Centre on July 14.
