Investigations into offences committed at last weekend’s protest activity in Darwin continue.
Detective Superintendent Peter Kennon said, “Protesters have a responsibility to do so within the bounds of the law and in a manner that doesn’t cause harm. Despite police efforts to ensure protesters acted within the bounds of public health directives a small number of people defied health precautions and caused harm.”
Yesterday, a second person had their firearms licence suspended, after being charged with disqualifying offences under the Firearms Act. Their five firearms were seized, along with a quantity of ammunition.
Police have arrested one more person, bringing the total arrested so far to 12. Police further issued one Notice to Appear and eight fines yesterday.
All those arrested have been bailed to appear before the Darwin Local Court at later dates.
Since the protest, police have:
- Arrested 12 people for offences including –
- Take part in a riot
- Assault police
- Resist police
- Hinder police
- Issued seven notices to appear for varying offences
- Issued 24 fines for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s Directions.
