Police are investigating a crash involving a police vehicle and a pedestrian at Beaconsfield this morning.
A 67 year old Beaconsfield man is in a stable condition in hospital after receiving non life threatening leg injuries after he was struck by a marked police vehicle in Grubb St about 8.15am.
Commander Brett Smith said that while the investigation was in its early stages, speed was not a factor in the crash.
“Initial investigations suggest the police vehicle was travelling at low speed and that sun glare may have been a factor,” he said.
“The police vehicle struck the man, who was walking east on the verge of the road travelling in the same direction as the police vehicle.”
“The police officer was driving the vehicle as part of a routine police patrol and was not urgent duty driving.”
As is our normal process, the crash is being investigated by Crash Investigation Services and overseen by Professional Standards.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have dash cam footage of a marked Hyundai Santa Fe police vehicle travelling east on Grubb Street or a man wearing a red and black Holden jacket and blue jeans walking along Grubb Street around 8.15 am, should contact Police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au
